There is also another way.

Suppose you've hidden columns D to G and you want E to show again. Enter E1:E1 
into the cellselector left on the formulabar and hit the enter-button. It now 
looks like your cellpointer had disappeared. Click on Format/Columns/Show 
Columns. Column E is now visible again.
