Yes, in college (in 1955), I played chess too much. And yes a chess game takes a lot of mental effort, but the machines have won the chess match with the best players.

Yes, games drive technology, the enhanced PC is the best gaming platform. But I know of one very bright young person who so far has missed his first two 2 years of college because he plays games! and a 14 year old who is always playing runescape, and not getting proper sleep, and it is affecting his 8th grade schoolwork. Games desensitize young people to vilolence.

I am ready to stop this discussion now, if possible, not that I don't have a lot to say on this subject. It is time for me to unsubscribe, and return my inbox to sanity..

I have appreciated the work of the people who are answering open office questions!
