You don't say what Operating System you are using. I assume Windows.

In theory you don't need to download anything. You can enter the data into Wordpad, save the file as text, open a DOS (CMD) box and use the SORT command to sort the file. Entering the data as <surname>,<firstname> will produce more logical results. Wordpad, DOS/CMD and the SORT command all came "in the box" with Windows.

Or you could download and install OpenOffice and use Writer (a word processor that competes with Microsoft Word), Calc (a spreadsheet program that competes with Microsoft Excel) or Base (a database manager that competes with Microsoft Access). OpenOffice is free (as in no cost) to download and to use on as many computers as you like in any context (private, business, education, ...) you like. Given that you found this mail list, you have also found the site from which to download OpenOffice. You will also have found the introductory documentation which is worth reading before you start.

It would help if you told us what you want to do with the result.
