Rob: As the guys in the Guiness Ad here in the States say: 'Brilliant, Just Brilliant'. Your readme is EXACTLY what we need to help new users with what the mailing list is all about. We need to include the problems addressed by the Linux community and all will be well. I would like to add that installing OpenOffice.org OVER the existing 'branded' OpenOffice program included with most, but not all, Linux distributions may cause problems and there is a known problem with either KDE or Gnome.
