I believe it's better to change the default style. Otherwise, you need to change the format of every cell on every sheet. I have not tested that but I imagine it would add considerably to the size of the file and detract from its performance. Furthermore, the "default font" would not apply to any sheet subsequently added to the file.
Yes, you are probably right there. I didn't think of the need for more than one sheet… Just of curiosity, I tested the size of an empty spreadsheet. Created with changed default style: 6720 bytes The font changed, in cells of all the three sheets, to Batang Bold 12: 6819 bytes Undo everything: 6564 bytes Hmmmm… the last case was odd, wasn't it? A few more experiments tells me that doing something, then undoing it, doesn't seem to give the same file size as before the first change was made. Strange, but out of topic. The point is that changing the format of every cell in every sheet doesn't seem to change the file size very much. But still, changing the default style is the way to go. Another funny thing: After closing OpenOffice.org, I tried to delete the two files I created for the experiment. Deleting the first one was easy, but Windows (XP SP2) says that some application use the other one. I checked the task manager, and there is no soffice or scalc process running at all (I sorted the list to find it easier). I guess this makes me hate WIndows even more… Why can't it at least tell me WHAT application uses the file? Because there is no such application, Windows is just making the whole thing up! At least it seems so… Anyone who know of a program that can force files to be deleted the most brutal possible way? Maybe make my laptop explode at the same time? That would be nice… Well, this is also way out of topic. Have a nice day! Johnny Andersson
