Dear support,
I am using OpenOffice 2.0, installed by a repair shop. Problem: Whenever I receive a .pdf attachment [as to an Outlook Express email], I click on 'open' & instead of a download, I get a screen of MANY menu options, such as OpenOffice 1.0,& NONE of which is OpenOffice 2.0, nor any obvious connection for .pdf. When I tried downloading OpenOffice 2.3, the 'clock' indicated about 10 hours to do! I cancelled...
  Can you please help me?
  Thank you, John C. Stevens

Download and install the *free* PDF reader from Adobe. I'm amazed it's not already installed on your system and properly associated to .pdf files. I've never come across a Windows system that didn't have Adobe Acrobat Reader pre-installed.

If you want to install OpenOffice, which in any case is a good idea, and the download will take too long you could pay a few dollars for a CD. There's a list of suppliers linked to from the download page. Just check the price before you buy; here be dragons. Note that any deal you do is between you and the vendor. "We" are not involved. Or you can frequently get OpenOffice on the CD/DVD that comes with your favourite computer magazine.

Right - and since I don't have any affiliation with it...a recomendation for a good spot to get a CD.

http://www.8daysaweek.co.uk They charge a reasonable fee, include some nice add ons and run a forum to support you with any installation problems you might have with OpenOffice.org or the other bundled apps / add ons - and more general questions - In in other words it is an example of how it should be done, IMO
