ho would worry about se3curity for something like this? I use ftp to
upload HTML files which are then going to be put on display for all the
world to see ...
I think sometimes people go overboard on security.

I wouldn't try and use FTP on it's own... Not very secure. Most ISPs
will allow you to use SSH and SFTP to access your host. Just google for
those.
