The problem occurs repeatedly whenever Open Office crashes / restarts, and
the automatic file reconstruction takes place (which seems to default if I
do not get to the dialogue in time)...

The file, which is always my large spreadsheet where I manage all documents
in my innovation project, is saved in .XLS format for Office 2000, for
cross-compatability. When it is restored, it comes back with exactly the
right number of tabs, but no information visible. This process also of
course overwrites the existing file before the saves and as it is an open
office process, I cannot rescue via TEMP files, although I am able to find
some partial files that do contain information, they are in unusable formats
(cannot import from these files into CALC).

What this means is that I have large amounts of work wiped out by a
behaviour of Open Office.
I have now turned on the backup option - although I cannot find, apart from
command line, how to turn off the auto restore function.
How can I recover the 'recovered' (= erased) files? And therefore save
myself hours of reconstruction work?

All help appreciated. Happy New Year
