On this separate side issue, it is worth installing a freeware PDF virtual printer just for this purpose - notwithstanding OpenOffice's own Export as PDF function. Then you can do all the testing of this sort of thing to the virtual printer and examine the results using your PDF reader of choice. That way, you use no paper or toner ...
