Perhaps the OP could clarify what he wants to achieve? Is this in
Draw or Writer, and was it a text frame or a text box?

As I did yesterday, in Draw, I click on the "T" and draw a text box.
With the cursor in that box, I can insert items, including a formula. I
can do this on both Linux & Windows versions of OO. I don't have any
idea why it doesn't work for you or the OP.
