Unfortunately there are no journal files by the moment which could help to
reproduce the issue.

I'm not sure that they could. I was just looking for any source of
evidence on the possible root cause. Any errors in the broker log would
help for the same reason.
What I think is happening is that a flag inside the journal module is
being set to indicate an in-progress transaction, and that somehow it is
not being correctly reset. Whether that is somehow the cause of the hang
you saw or a consequence of it, I don't yet know.
(Kim cc:ed as with his expertise on the journal code he may have more to
offer).
P.S. Broker restart has helped to workaround this issue.
Unfortunately I suspect that may be the only solution, though without
really knowing the root cause its hard to say for sure.
