This looks like a client error to me... the line which says: Client restricted itself to : PLAIN
Out of interest what happens if you remove the &sasl_mechs='ANONYMOUS' from your connection URL? Without any sort of restriction I'd expect the client to do the right thing. I need to get to sleep now (1am here :-) )...
