Yes, that bit's fine. https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5545#section-3.1.1 I think, as guessed, one problem is that SOGo sometimes seems to create events without a DTSTART (as in this example - the original has DTSTART but the copy from SOGo doesn't) and it can be fiddly to track down and fix troublesome events from anything except the SOGo web interface.
