Actually, I also spent some time looking for this in the APR docs but did not find anything. All I could find was a mention in the changelog of the following bug:
http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=37121 So it was not very apparent that 5.5.12 has this bug. It was certainly not described on the page cited below. I am going to stay with 5.5.12 so I just disabled APR.
