Thanks. That at least clears up a misconception on my part. Researching it cleared up another misconception on my part: that the Catalina job directly owns the ports. Actually, the ports are owned by a QP0ZSPWT job (that is itself probably owned by the Catalina job.)
Once I know how to get a thread dump on an AS/400 (the link didn't cover that; I've got a question out to the Java-400 list at Midrange.com about that), I'll try another shutdown/restart on our box, and see what happens to port 8005 and the QP0ZSPWT job.
