James, I think you can't use auto-deploy for this: you need to do this:
<Context path="" ... In your server.xml file. You should be able to use whatever WAR you want to use. Then, take the Tomcat manager application (or whatever is currently running as the "root" context) and change the path on that Context; you should be good to go. -chris
