So far, no luck.

I tried a simple script like:

{{python}}
try:
    print xcontext.action
except Exception:
    print 'exception'
{{/python}}

this outputs:

exception

Side note:

{{python}}
try:
    print xcontext.action
except Exception as exc:
    print exc
{{/python}}

Results in a failure to execute the macro.
