Chris in USMA 12369 quoted a letter in the Sunday Telegraph which said:

>The International Standard (SI) system of measurement acknowledges the
>contribution made by British scientists by having three key units
>named after individuals, namely Watt (power), Joule (energy) and
>Newton (force). Can we raise our sights above kilograms (mass) and
>metres (length) and get away from the notion that a foreign system of
>units is being foisted upon us?

The above list of British scientists who have SI units named after them is
incomplete. It full list includes Gray, Faraday, and Kelvin. The cgs
system included units named after Maxwell and Stokes.

Britain, with 8 metric units named after its scientists, has had more
metric units named after its scientists than any other country.
