The following is amessage that I dispatched yesterday to Ezra but that I intended for the list: I must apologize for my delay in answering. My attention got interrupted by the television coverage of day one of la Bataille de Québec. The anarchists breeched the perimeter fence but the police. in close formation pushed them back The police used lots of tear gas, but no clubs or bullets. There were 2 or 3 arrests and one policeman was taken to hospital. The anarchists broke some windows, damaged some cars, and hurled lumps of concrete. The Summit of the Americas was delayed for an hour to await the cool of evening because the air conditioning had been shut down to avoid sucking in tear gas. Tomorrow will be day two of the battle. Tens of thousands of demonstrators are camping on the campus of l'Université Laval. Fortunately most of them are quite pacific. If you are looking for a place to demonstrate I can't recommend a better place than the City of Québec. Joseph B. Reid 17 Glebe Road West Toronto M5P 1C8 Tel. 416 486-6071
