Dear John and All,
No, there's no hidden metric here. The Stuart & Sons 2.9 metre grand piano
is just that 2.9 metres - it was designed that way, the steel frame was cast
to suit that dimensions, and all the parts were made and fitted using
millimetres.
Specifying the string diameters in micrometres had an added advantage, in
that it cut through all the old gauge numbers nonsense.
