Gene: I have, on a number of occasions, done the kind of transfer to which you refer. Even Bank of America doesn't provide the service at every branch -- just selected ones. It's unlikely that a credit union is set up for it. However, if you pay the bank in cash, it doesn't have to be your own bank.
The numbers Louis needs to provide are the transit number and the account number. Although those are enough for the actual transfer, the bank you use will almost inevitably require the name of Louis' bank, too.
