We all know Airbus is a European airplane manufacturer.  Lately they have been in the news for selling more planes then Boeing.  But is Airbus metric?  Does Airbus design their planes in metric?  Do they use metric parts?

Below is some info on Airbus' North American operations.  Notice the use of square feet.  Then there is Airbus china, with the use of square metres.  With 100 Engineers working in Kansas, one has to wonder if they do their design work in FFU or SI.

Any ideas?

Airbus North America

There are four established hubs of Airbus activity in North America. Headquarters for Airbus North America and Airbus North America Customer Services, Inc. are located in Herndon, Virginia, minutes from Washington D.C. and Washington Dulles International Airport.

The newest Airbus facility in the U.S., and largest in terms of people-power, is in Wichita, Kansas. Airbus North America Engineering, Inc., opened in Spring 2002, is the first design and engineering venture for Airbus in North America and hosts some 100 engineers working on the newest and largest Airbus aircraft: the A380.

The Airbus North America Customer Services, Inc. spares centre is located in Ashburn, Virginia. Working in concert with the spares facilities in Hamburg and Beijing, the Ashburn centre serves customers in the U.S., Canada and much of Latin America.

A $50 million, 100,000-square-foot Airbus training centre is located in Miami, Florida and trains more than 3,000 air crew mostly from North and Latin America, each year.

Airbus China

Airbus has had an office in Beijing since 1990, while customer services representatives all over China provide on the spot airline support.

The CASC/Airbus Customer Services Training & Support centre, jointly established by the China Aviation Supplies Import & Export Corporation (CASC) and Airbus, near the Beijing Capital Airport, is the first and most modern combined training and customer support facility in China. It can provide 10,000 hours of training per year for flight crews, maintenance engineers, mechanics and cabin crews.

The 5,000 square metre spare parts servicing centre stocks more than 25,000 parts. It is complemented by spare parts from more than 20 vendors from Europe and the United States who have set up facilities at the support centre.
