Totals per country are interesting but without reference to population size
they can be misleading. The US does not have worldwide dominance of Nobels
in per capita terms. I have seen similar claims for scoring countries in
terms of Olympic medals without reference to population size.

Britain need not be so proud either. Despite the economies of scale, it
takes 2.5 times as many British people to produce a Nobel prize as one
icelander.
