The UKIP are picking up a large number of votes in the
European elections as a protest, in my opinion, against Tony Blair's stance on
the Gulf war.
Minority parties always tend to pick up more votes in the
European elections.
In the local elections, though, which are going on at the
same time as the European elections, I reckon they are largely perceived
as a fringe party; a bunch of extremists that are unlikely to be taken
seriously.
I think people thought the same way about the NAZIs and look what
they did. They got into power and nearly destroyed
Europe.
Realistically, they have as much chance of reversing
metrication in Britain than the Pope agreeing to contraception......in other
words, extremely unlikely!!
There's nothing to worry about on that score,

Subject: [USMA:30089] UKIP
Some members of the BWMA are expressing elation
over the parliamentary elections on 2004-06-10 in the UK.
The UKIP if they were to win would no doubt undo all of the metrication
progress in the UK. Even though members of the BWMA hope the UKIP will
win significantly and be a force to undo metrication, I am wondering how
easy or difficult such a task will or can be.
Can someone from the UK give us a personal opinion on
how much a threat the UKIP is to metrication? I've been to their
website, but I'm sure it is all propaganda in their favour.
