Title: New trend in American traffic reporting?
I live in the city and commute via subway, so I never listen to traffic reports. However, lately I have been traveling a lot for work and have noticed a difference in traffic reports from what they were 10 years ago.

10 years ago, it seemed traffic reports used verbiage such as “traffic is backed up for 3 miles” from a particular intersection. Today, I have noticed the traffic reports and electronic signs report traffic in terms of minutes from a particular reference point rather than distance. This is probably due to technology being able to monitor real-time traffic speeds – and interesting that they would report only times rather than speed. Has anyone else noticed this in their areas?
