Our recent experience buying carpeting is that the measurements used are a horrible mish-mosh of square feet, square yards, and "running feet".

Pricing was done by the square foot in some stores and in square yards in others, and sometimes even a mixture of the two in the same store. Furthermore, pricing the carpet itself by the square foot and the installation cost in square yards was also common.
