With the appropriate language (adjusted for name of state), I also sent this message to Alabama W&M officials and Alabama Attorney General King. New York and Alabama are the only states that have not yet adopted the UPLR metric-only labeling option. If we can get unanimity among the states on metric-only labeling, we can then declare that there is no opposition to metric-only commerce in any U.S. jurisdiction. All U.S.non-state territories have already adopted the measure.

Dear NYS A&M Officials,

For this National Metric Week (October 7-13), I am writing to urge New York
State to adopt the metric-only labeling option of the National Conferences of
Weights and Measures' Uniform Packaging and Labeling Regulation (UPLR).

If enacted in your state, the measure would grant permission for
non-federally-regulated products to be labeled in metric units only (that is,
without U.S. customary units). Only your state and Alabama have not yet adopted
this measure. Adoption of this UPLR provision will establish no mandate and
thus will cause no increased costs to New York businesses.

Sincerely,

Paul Trusten, R.Ph.
