Dear NYS Consumer Officials,
For this National Metric Week (October 7-13), I am writing to urge New
York State to adopt the metric-only labeling option of the National
Conferences of Weights and Measures' Uniform Packaging and Labeling
Regulation (UPLR).
If enacted in your state, the measure would grant permission (that is,
an option; no requirement) for non-federally-regulated products to be
labeled in metric units only (that is, without U.S. customary units).
Only your state and Alabama have not yet adopted this measure. Adoption
of this UPLR provision will establish no mandate and thus will cause no
increased costs to New York businesses.
Sincerely,
Paul Trusten, R.Ph.
