Victor, I think the person who would interject the topic of the metric system where it doesn't belong is just displaying frustration. Maybe the person likes to read science journals but becomes frustrated by the use of metric in them.

The article itself makes no reference to metric, but search for the word metric through the reader comments. Some guy makes a wise crack about how the people who demoted Pluto must be the same crowd pushing the metric system (hope so, since they seem to get their way). Then three other people chime in to defend metric, and express frustration at the backwards US system. To me, this makes a couple of points. One, educated scientifically oriented people tend to favor conversion (like Obama and his CTO, we hope).
