Several years ago some employees of the Russian railways came to our
building in Washington. They handed out small gifts. One of them was a 3 m
tape measure, with the railway's logo on it. The person who received it,
who is "old school", gave it to me.

Ironically, the button you push to retract the tape has the word "PUSH" on
it!

Harry, on his 2004 visit to the U.S., our friend and long-time USMA member
Mike Joy brought me an 8 m metal tape measure from Australia that is in
millimeters only, made by the Hammer company. On his last visit, he brought
me one of those multi-segment, folding wooden rulers, length 2 m, made by
the Bauer company in Germany that is metric only. It is labeled Bauer Model
400.

I have a 5 m tape measure given to me by a Canadian. I looked on the
company site (starrett.com) and only could find a dual measure version,
although there seem to be a few metric only longer tapes. Pretty annoying!
