Harry, Computer controlled machine tools can easily cut parts to 25.4 mm with tolerances to fractions of a mm. I’m certain, without direct proof, that many factories in China use them. On Dec 7, 2015, at 9:10 PM, Harry Wyeth <hbwy...@gmail.com<mailto:hbwy...@gmail.com>> wrote:
I can't give you an example, but I know that I have seen hardware items and others made in China that claim to be "xyz inches" or having an ounce capacity. Of course, I understand that the Chinese factories themselves probably measure and manufacture these things in SI, but they appear to be inch-pound when they appear here. I wonder if they manufacture something labeled as one inch as really 2.54 cm, and how would they do such a minute measurement? It may make sense for foreign manufacturers to continue to manufacture in inch-pound for a while so US sellers can change their packaging, etc., but it is incredible to read that Chinese publishers drop down to using inch-pound in their own documents, even if they are in the English language. That's really stupid.
