Roundabouts cannot come too soon. Thank you Howard for reminding us of
their superior safety feature. Here is an example: Some of you may know the
Bourne bridge to Cape Cod. Pretty steep ramps. A tanker truck full of
gasoline run thru the intersection onto the roundabout island. No injuries.
Had there been traffic lights, ...... (I passed there a few hours earlier -
saw the mess in the morning paper - it flipped on the side but the
gasoline, pouring out, has not ignited.)
Speaking of roads in Australia, not only do they have roundabouts, but also
a total absence of stop signs (only yield signs). Millions of ordinary
drivers are made criminals in the US daily from drivers who use common
sense and slow down as much as is needed without coming to the dreadful
"complete stop". At least here in the NE cities - 99%. No "yield" signs
anywhere.
