It does indeed fail. I updated the image on the N310, but the issue remains the 
same.

Yup, so try:

uhd_usrp_probe --args addr=192.168.10.2,type=n3xx,product=n310

If that *still* fails, then you probably have a much-older image on the N310, 
and should follow the directions for updating it:
