Have you ever had one of those days where you just want to tinker around
with something new, but you don't know what project or program you should
go to next? I'm having one of those right now. For quite a while I've
wanted to make a list of programs, concepts, etc that I don't know much
about.

I think a list like this would be useful for newbies too. You might see
a topic you don't know anything about, for example, kerberos. You'd say:
"Hum, I wonder what kerberos is. I'll go to google for a bit and search
around about it". It's nice to know the basic general concepts, just so
that when a problem does arise, you know what you might be able to use
to solve it (even though you don't know the ins and outs).

Here is kind of the format that the list would be:

-=-=-=-=-
(if you reply to this message just insert your suggestions below)
----
Programming Langauges:
C/C++
Java
PERL
PHP
python
...
----
OS Concepts:
Kernel Modules
Virutal memory
Process Management
Threads
...
----
Linux Distros:
Redhat
Mandrake
Debian
Gentoo
...
---
...Other Topics (add others as needed)
...
...
-=-=-=-=-

What other things are very useful to know about? What topics/tools should a
Linux/Unix system administrator, programmer, or user be familiar with?

I know this thread could get long but I think it could be useful to know
about. I'll take everything that is contributed and make a web page out of
it. Also, this is about making a list, not to justify/prove that one thing is
better than another (like Ruby is better than Perl, Redhat better than Gentoo, etc).

Thanks for the input.
