I'm not sure how ``new'' this would be, but a lot of people would
probably find this useful. Write a web-based EDL generator. Interface it
with a backend database. Think up a decent peer-review/moderation
mechanism for it.
Use model:
Joe logs into web site. He selects ``The Matrix'' from the movie list.
He is presented with a set of categories (sex, violence, language,
emotional intensity, etc.). He selects the categories he doesn't want to
see. All EDL records that pertain to those categories are automatically
selected for the EDL. He then goes through each event, making sure there
everything is checked that he wants checked. He clicks a button to
generate an EDL, which he can use with the MPlayer EDL system to watch
cleaned-up movies. While watching, he notices that one of the time codes
is off slightly, or that something was missed. He jots down the playback
timer value for that part, and after the movie, logs in to the web site
and takes a minute to adjust the event records for The Matrix that
needed fine-tuning.
You can chalk it up as community service. :-)
