Having used both distributions I prefer Debian over Gentoo. I just got so tired of
waiting for everything to compile (KDE 3 took like half a day on my powerbook). Apt is
immediate,
but there are some drawbacks. It takes a very long time for new software to get
packaged. (I'm using KDE 3 at home but KDE 2.2 at work because it hasn't been packaged
for
powerpc.) That said, you set up your computer once, and you will never have to do it
again. Maintaining a Debian box is so much easier and faster. So decide who you are.
Are you
the kind of guy who want's to be bleeding edge, compiling everything, waiting. Or are
you the kind of guy who likes to be bleeding edge without the overhead of compiling
everything
to get it to work? For me Gentoo was fun for a few months, but I've gone back to
debian, and I'll never look back.
