Unfortunately I can't help you fix the problem because I have yet to figure out a solution myself. However, owning the same motherboard I can give you a piece of insight. The southbridge (the chip that contains the soundcard circuit) on the motherboard is not the VIA 8233A but rather the VIA 8235. The difference in the chip is what distinguishes the KT3 Ultra from the KT3 Ultra2 (plus native USB 2.0 support, which is also part of the different southbridge chip).I've got an MSI KT3 Ultra2-C motherboard using a VIA Apollo KT333 chipset that has a VIA 8233A onboard soundcard. If I run redhat-config-soundcard it says: Vendor: VIA Technologies Model: VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller Module: via82cxxx_audio If I tell it to play a test sound it pauses for a second and displays this in the terminal: sox: Can't open output file '/dev/dsp': No such device
So, part of the problem is that it isn't finding the device because the device it is looking for isn't there. As of now I have yet to find sound drivers that support the VIA 8235 southbridge, although I gave up a month or two ago and haven't taken the time recently to start searching again. I wish you luck, and if you find any solutions please let me know!
