I think the main issue I'm looking to solve is not really with gnucash but how
to get past a dependency problem with apt-rpm.  A similar situation would occur
(I believe) if I manually compiled a required library for mplayer for
performance reasons - rpm probably wouldn't care then or after while apt-rpm
probably wouldn't work then or after.
