When Linux is running, there are several consoles you can interact with. X usually runs on console 7. So what you need to do is switch to a text console (even though your mouse is still screwed up and the cursor is in the corner) by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1. Then log in and you can use command line stuff to navigate to /etc/X11 and edit XF86Config. You can use vi to edit or pico for the uninitiated. (I admit to using pico for years -- it's very simple and easy to understand).
