You can do the same thing from a DOS boot floppy, and it does work for
2000/XP.

Depending on how you set things up, you may instead need to go into
your partitioning tool of choice (Partition Magic, fdisk, etc) and make
the Windows partition "active". This would be the case if you installed
grub/lilo on the first sector of the boot partition, rather than the MBR.

I'm not sure about XP, but with NT, doing a "fdisk /mbr" from windows will
rewrite you Master Boot Record. You should be able to do a normal windows
boot after that.

I know this isn't exactly a linux topic, but the problem is this...
I was dual booting windows XP and Linux. I plan to purchase an additional
harddrive that I am going to put linux on, so I removed it until then.
However, I also removed the boot partition, so my computer doesn't boot
unless I boot off a grub floppy which I can then use to chainload the
windows bootloader. I would like to fix the Windows bootloader until I get
the new hard drive, whereupon I'll reinstall linux and grub and all will be
well. Does anyone know how to make the XP bootloader run by default so I
don't have to use the floppy?
Thanks
Ryan
