So last night at midnight I fire up red-carpet just for the heck of it. What do ya know, xd2 is available. So I begin the download of 132 mb for this new fangled ximian offering. I wake up this morning to go check it out and here are my impressions. First of all, my beautiful AA Monospace font is no longer AA. That's fixable. I just changed the Monospace fonts to Luxi Mono. Fixed. There is this Industrial theme that XD2 uses to theme everything. So I try it for about and hour and finally change it. I keep the icons because the Industrial icon set it ok, but I can't take Industrial window border or controls any longer. My default browser is set to galeon which is fixable. There is this DANG My Computer icon on my desktop. What's up with that?? Anyhow, I know Ximian is trying to ease winders users into the Linux desktop arena and that's cool. It looks like I may have to use red-carpet for most of my updates instead of apt :-( Hmm, what else. Well, overall I would have to say that XD2 gets a big "well, it's ok I guess" from me. Personally, if you love Gnome 2.2 the way it is, I feel you should just leave it. I'll keep XD2 for a while just to see if I can tweak it to my liking. If not, I'm sure I'll post some rant about it :-) -- Glen Wagley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
