I'll tell you how I accomplished this once upon a time. Step 1. Insert card. Step 2. Surf Internet Seriously, it went that easily. The stock Debian kernel recognized the chipset and created wlan0. The DHCP server gave me an address and I was off. You'll probably want the wireless-tools package as well so you can get info about your AP, signal strength and such.
