I just got back from Egypt. I was filming for BYU's Arabic dept. I'm sure it's a great place to visit, but it wasn't fun to work there. In fact, we had a great time after the Secret Police shut us down. However, prices are extremely low there right now. Three of us tried to blow $100 of our per diem on our last day and couldn't do it. We had dinner at a 5-star Italian restaurant in the Merdian Hotel, ordered appetizers, and tipped generously, but we still could only drop 360 ginnea ($60).
By the way, our Linux server went down while I was there (HDD crash), and, after having a tech install a new drive and Debian base with SSH, I restored the entire system from the El Dokki neighborhood of Cairo (7,043 miles away, per my GPS). And my boss wonders why I don't run Windows.

Sounds good. I just spent 2 weeks in Europe which was a great vacation. I returned feeling pretty good. It cost me only a little more than your week in Egypt. Anyway, I've kind of blown my vacation budget for the year. :) Next years plan is Istanbul and parts of western Turkey (if Evan McNabb is rich by then, maybe he can go with me) and maybe also a week in Siberia (yes it is a nice vacation spot in the summer).
I really want to go back to Jordan and Egypt. I definitely want to go back to Israel (5 months there kind of got the whole area in by blood) and will go back when things seem better.
I'm still tired of computers, though. :)
