Permissions on a directory of mine (/var/www/cgi-bin) were changed while updating a RH9 system. Unfortunately those permissions must not be changed because they affect suExec (apache's su wrapper) and suExec will not run if permissions are not exactly right.

I recall seeing once that there's a way (but maybe that was in Debian) to ask the system to please leave my permissions alone on a particular file or directory. I'd ask Dr Google but I can't think how to phrase the question in query terms.

Does anyone know how to do this? I need it to never happen again.
