I didn't mean going to the store and buying software that you don't know about... I mean doing it the way the model is meant to... paying for support (or at least that's what I keep hearing is supposed to be the model). I know very few of us have the money to spend anything big on things like this, and one of the best parts is that the software is free, but I'm just saying... It's starting to make me feel that a good chunk of the Linux community (that I see) is not doing an contributing, but freeloading of the work of others, and that's the reason why they switched over to open source... not because they truly believe in the ideals behind it, but because they want something for nothing (as seems to be the case for a lot of college students).
I'm not advocating that everyone should suddenly pay a $100 or even a $50 dollar tech support fee, but maybe save up a little of thier extra change and send it to support the OSS team of their choice... and help get the business model for open source working, since the development is doing pretty well. ____________________ BYU Unix Users Group http://uug.byu.edu/ ___________________________________________________________________ List Info: http://uug.byu.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/uug-list
