I've never had any such problems using apt with a variety of sources. 
If there are problems, apt reports them as dependency errors.  Also,
like Greg said, the sources.list file is prioritized by line.  By
putting the fedora.us lines above freshrpms, they are given priority
when resolving dependencies.  Furthermore, Freshrpms should now be
compatible package-wise with fedora, since they are now supporting
fedora as the main distribution package tree.  So there will be few
problems.  I also think that saying you'll have "unstability" because of
package mixing is a misnomer.  Instability will be the result of
immature/buggy programs in the packages, not the packages themselves (in
a package or any of its dependencies packages).  If the program installs
and runs, it runs, if not it won't.
