Is this hardware or software?  On either system, the rebuild isn't
automatic, I  don't think.  I think you have to tell it to start
rebuilding.

Many hours would be my guess.

Just a plug for raid/5 plus a hot spare -- the rebuild on the spare
takes place immediately, automatically.  Then you just replace the dead
drive and it becomes the spare.
