uugers,
i wrote this letter to the daily universe...
Just for fun I'd like to play the devils advocate on one point:
The corporations of America _are_ the people of America in exactly the same way as the government is the people. Where would we be without them? Where would they be without us? Don't you work for some organization who has interests they want defended by our government? In fact, don't people tend to incorporate in some way (lobbying groups, political parties, etc.) when they really want something to change?
My point is that people like to think of themselves in relation to mythical ogres who want to destroy our freedoms, when often those ogres are really fathers and mothers who believe in what they are doing almost as much as you do (yes, I even think Darl is dumb enough to think he's got a cause). And that we all group together in some way when we want the government to hear us. Corporations are just another interest group. If they are more organized than you (and so better heard) it's probably because they're working harder for it.
Now for all you who are ready to flame me for what I just said take a second and breathe. I'm on your side. I think many corporations are the too large tool of some greedy ogre(s,ss) at the top. I think many of the lawyers and politicians who serve those ogres are too cowardly to do what's right. They hide behind the excuse that they need the money. But on the other hand I think that the fundamental problem here is not that these corporations have too much influence it's that "people" aren't _doing_ enough. Both joe common and super-mega-global-corp /should/ be heard in government. I would not want to live under a government ruled solely by the few zealots loud enough to get their way.
Writing to the Daily Universe is one small way you can try to be heard. Writing to Senator Hatch might be an even better way (he's not completely deaf).
