The point is that neither RMS nor the FSF nor anyone else has ever referred to the 
kernel as GNU/Linux, that I know of.  It is just Linux.  It is also imprecise to refer 
to the basic FOSS OS strictly as Linux, and since many of the basic parts of of this 
operating system are GNU parts, it is more logical to identify it as GNU/Linux than 
KDE/Linux.  It is not bad to call the whole system Linux, at least your deferential 
etymologist would not necessarily discourage such a mutation as incorrect language.
