Yeah, I hate that about most Linux distributions.  And no, I don't 
suppose gnome-calculator is needed to have a usable system, but is dc 
needed?  How about ls?  Where do you draw the line?  Do most Linux 
distros support a "minimal" install?  (I honestly have no idea, it's 
been at least five years since I've done a Linux install.  I really 
ought to do one again to check the current state of the art.)
